Reading Action Plan

Reading is a really important skill to develop among our students, and for that reason you will find below four actions based on some teaching ideas:

1st – Introduce the topic of the reading for the students using what they already know about it and insert new contents, for example, if the text is about jobs, explore as much as you can about usual and unusual jobs, as well as what they have in mind for their first job, which jobs their parents have and so on.

2nd – Use some of the key vocabularies to teach them about the topic and what they will find in the text, write them on the board so students can learn them visually. Write at least 10 words related to the reading.

3rd – Write sentences about the topic and discuss with the class if they agree or not with the content. For example, if the reading is about means of transportation, write sentences such as ‘Buses are a very important public transportation.’ Write at least 5 sentences and ask students to give more.

4th – Ask students to read the text and then write down a summary about it, then they exchange the summaries and discuss what kind of information was missing, was considered more important than other, and so on. Students help each other with unknown vocabulary.
